Herbert Berndt, a sales clerk for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for 30 years, died Wednesday in Walnut Creek. He was 85.
The native of Morton, Minn., moved to Lafayette 45 years ago. He was an Army officer during World War II and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was appointed Provost Marshall in Lanstuhl, Germany, at the end of the war.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances Berndt; son, Randy Berndt of University Park, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Services: Private burial will be held at Lafayette Cemetery under the arrangements of Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel.
