. . . "and flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest"
from Hamlet by William Shakespeare

Ethel Louise Watson went home to be with our Lord on May 27, 2010. Ethel was born on Sept. 26, 1922 in Gunter. She was the only child of Robert Oscar "Smoky" Bacon and Ina Pearl Cravens Bacon. She was a child of the Depression and never forgot her hard-scrabble roots and upbringing. She was a 1940 graduate of Gunter High School, and a life-long member of Gunter First Baptist Church. On Aug. 7, 1945, Ethel married Wayne L. Watson in Sherman. She and her World War II soldier boy moved to Gunter shortly thereafter. They were lifelong Gunter residents who were always active in the rapid development of their beloved community. Ethel worked as city secretary of Gunter for 37 years. She was fiercely independent and opinionated. Ethel was a permanent fixture in city hall as residents came in and out to pay their bills and complete transactions. Affable and well-liked, Ethel formed life-long friendships as she went about her daily duties. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 52 years.
She is survived by her one son, Robert Wayne Watson of Gunter and one daughter, Carla Jane Jordan of Gunter. Ethel derived immense joy from her beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They are: Rob Jordan and his wife Stephanie of Little Elm, Laura Pecina and her husband Eric of Frisco, Lindsey Blevins and her husband Mark of Sherman, and Trystan Ferol Watson of Plano. She is survived by great-grandchildren; Katy Jordan, Keelie Jordan, Brynn Blevins, and Paisley Blevins.
