Robert Leaman Benbow, better known as "Lee," who was born and spent most of his life until about eight years ago, on a farm three miles east of Gas City, died Tuesday on his farm near Lafontaine. He was a son of Thomas Benbow, of Gas City, and a brother of Mrs. Ora Lenfesty of Gas City and Mrs. Chester Buffington of near Jonesboro. He is well known in this vicinity. Funeral services were held yesterday at Lafountaine.

Robert Leaman, son of Thomas and Hannah Benbow, was born three miles east of Gas City, Ind., July 3, 1868, and departed this life April 1, 1919, age 50 years, 8 months and 28 days. His childhood and early manhood were spent on the farm with his parents.

On November 1, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Kitty Ellars, of Gas City. To this union two children were born, Carl Thomas, age 6 years, and Marjorie, age four.

A year after his marriage he moved to his farm near Lafontaine where he has since resided. At about the age of sixteen he united with the Christian church at Jefferson near his old home, when he continued his membership until March of the present year, when he united with the M. E. church at Lafontaine. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge, having joined at Upland and later transferred his membership to Lafontaine.

Lee, as he was commonly known, was a devoted husband, a loving father, a kind son and brother. As a neighbor he was helpful and loyal, always ready to go to the help of a fellow man. Besides his wife and two little ones, he leaves an aged father, Thomas Benbow, of Gas City; three sisters, Mrs. George Haines, of Marion, Mrs. C. A. Buffington, of Jonesboro, and Mrs. C. O. Lenfesty, of Gas City; one brother, I. S. Benbow, of Fairmount, Ind. His mother, one brother and two sisters have preceded him to the Better Land. A host of friends and neighbors extend their heart-felt sympathy to the bereaved ones.
