Mary E. Pickard Crew-Travis' middle name was Elizabeth. Her first husband, Wiley W. Crew, was killed when his horse threw him. Her father, Henry E.T. Pickard was killed in San Augustine County by a fall from his mule. He never rode a horse. He had gone back into the Matlock Hills to get some slippery elm bark to make a poultice for his wife's feet and legs. His mule crow-hopped over a small washout, and he got overbalanced and fell, breaking his neck. Mary Pickard Crew Travis's son Conley C. Crew was killed when his horse reared up, fell over backward, killing him.
