Obituary from The Great Falls Tribune 9/27/2005:

Dorothy "Leita" Bean Converse, who would have turned 100 next week, a retired rancher from Augusta, died of natural causes Friday at a Great Falls care center.

Visitation is 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Augusta Community Church. Her funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, followed by a luncheon in the Senior Center Buidling. Gorder Funeral Home of Choteau is handling arrangements.

She is survived by sons Richard (Mary) Converse of Great Falls, Donald (Linda) Converse of Augusta and Dale (Sharon) Converse of Northville, Mich. She raised two foster daughters, Jodie Cozzy and Bobbie Ridgeway Glenn, of Kalispell and her children, Marleita, Jacob, Dean and Breanna; and two grandchildren, Aiyden and Destiny, all of Kalispell. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Sarah, Pam, Teresa (Paul) of Augusta, Robert (Stephanie), William (Gwen), David (Annette), Susan (Russ), Chris (Michelle), and Julie (Lee); 14 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alyssa, Brent, Trevor, Bryan, Kimberly, Alan, Caleb, Cody, Justin, Alyssa, Caroline, Olivia and Winton.

Leita was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Augusta, to Richard A. and Carrie Bean, early settlers in the Flat Creek country near Bean Lake. She lived on the family ranch until she married Elton Converse in 1936. Elton and Leita began their married life on a ranch they bought on Elk Creek just west of Augusta, and Leita resided in the same ranch house until spring 2002, when she moved to the Great Falls Missouri River Manor at the age of 96.

In her younger days, she made many trips on "old Doc," her beloved black thoroughbred horse, up the Dearborn River herding cattle. Leita and most of the Flat Creek community came to love the Lord in the early 1920s through the efforts of a circuit-riding preacher friend of Brother Van. All her descendants share that same love for Jesus.

Her greatest joy in life was her children's Bible clubs that she conducted for 50 years, and for 35 years taught Sunday school in the community church of Augusta.

All of her family wishes to thank everyone that came or sent greetings to her 100th birthday party, held in Augusta on Aug. 27, 2005.

Leita was preceded in death by her husband in 1968; her parents; and a sister, Maudie Bean.

Memorials may be sent to the Augusta Community Church, Box 309, Augusta, MT 59410, or the Child Evangelism Fellowship, Box 21337, Billings, MT 59104.
