Bastrop, Louisiana
Harold Lowther , 22 , became Bastrop's fist fatality in the
Vietnam conflict when he died Tuesday, April 5 in the Tuy
Hoha area following a vehicle accident …
His wife, the former Jeanie Fay Dopson, was notified
Wednesday by a member of the Armed Forces that he was
dead and that details of the accident were unknown.. Mrs.
Lowther said that he had written recently of a 40 mile trip
that they must make which would take three of four days
because of mined highways…
Lowther had been in the U S Army for the past six years and
had been in Vietnam for the past three months where he was
connected with an engineering division and served as a truck
driver.. The group to which he was attached was engaged in
building an extension on an airstrip near Tuy Hoha…
He is the son of Mrs. Martin Przekwas and Ray Lowther of Bastrop
and attended Bastrop High School.. He has two small children, Connie
Dean , 3 , and Arnold Wayne, 1 year old ….
The young soldier had been in Bastrop in December on leave before
going to Vietnam in January …
A telegram was sent by the Army but very little details were available…
The body will be sent back to the states for burial ….

With the Rev. J. E. Allen officiating assisted by Bill York, pastor
Of the Central Church of Christ… Burial will be in the Christ
Church Cemetery under the direction of the First National
Funeral Home ….
Specialist Lowther was killed April 5 in Vietnam while on active
Duty.. Details of the vehicle accident in which he lost his life

The body is being flown to Shreveport today accompanied by
Sgt. David Rice, military escort and will be brought by ambulance

The young soldier was a native of Bastrop where he enlisted in the
Service in September 1960 …
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jeanie D. Lowther, of Bastrop, two
Children, Connie Dean and Arnold Wayne, his father, Ray Lowther of
Bastrop and his mother, Mrs. Margaret Przekwas of Bastrop, his
Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vince Bayles of Bastrop…
Pallbearers will be Harvey and Ernest Rainbolt, Curtis Matlock, Gerald
T. W. and William (Buddy) Wallace ….
