Joseph J. Else, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Else, was born at Shire Oaks, England, Dec. 28, 1865, and passed away at his home in Litchfield, Nebr., April 4, 1942, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Mr. Else came to America with his parents when but two years of age. He spent four years in Illinois and 12 years in Cass county, Nebr., then came to Sherman county, where he has resided continuously for the 53 years since.
On Oct. 8, 1880, he was united in marriage to Lizzie Oswandel. To this union were born two children: Bertha Clark of Corvallis, Oregon, and Fred of Flint, Michigan. Those left to mourn their loss are, besides the loving wife and two afore mentioned children: three grandchildren; Joseph Clark, of Corvallis, Ore., Winnifred Else of Litchfield, Nebraska and Myna Hackney of Flint, Michigan. Also one sister, Mary Hobert.
Mr. Else was in no way connected with any church, but was baptized in the Church of England in infancy and as well known by all of his intimate friends, always led an honorable, upright life, and his passing will long be felt by this community.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, Tuesday afternoon, April 7 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Giles of Pleasanton, in charge, and the music by M.E. Choir, Mrs. Mannhalter at the piano.
Out of town relatives present at the funeral: Fred and Winnie Else, Flint, Michigan; Mary Hobert, Kellerton, Iowa; Fannie Barnes, Trenton, Mo.; Mary Taudy, Oscaloosa, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Oswandel, Oscaloosa, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson of Hazard, Nebr.
