Charles Talbert Bates

Funeral services for Charles Talbert Bates, age 82, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 1988 in the Clarendon church of Christ with Don Stone, church of Christ Minister, officiating. Interment was in Citizens Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors.

Mr. Bates died at 5:20 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 1988 at Faith Memorial Nursing Home in Pasadena, Texas following a lengthy illness. He was born August 9, 1905 in Redford, Arkansas and came to Texas in the early 1930s. He moved from Childress to Donley County in 1953. He was married to Luch Erniestine [sic] Hunt on December 23, 1933. She died in 1966. He had farmed most of his life until 1977 when he retired. He was a member of the Clarendon church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Opal F. Williams of Pasadena; two sons, Charles D. Bates of Lubbock, James T. Bates of Shreveport, Louisiana; two sisters, Bessie White of Monticello, Arkansas, Bertha Borsheim of Kennewick, Washington; two brothers, William Bates of Galveston, Frank Bates of La Marque; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Earl Shields, Mark Allen, Ernest Barbee, Don Altman, Donald White, and Arthur Shields.

Honorary bearers were Robert C. Jones, John Garner, Frank Thomason, and Elmer Vines.
