She was born March 21, 1915, in rural Alton, Kan., to Cecil Adair and Laura Coral Whitaker Anderson.
Enid graduated from Alton Rural High School in May 1932. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.
On Aug. 6, 1933, she married Loran N. Barnt, a farmer who lived on the Barnt family farm north of Alton. Three children were born to this union: Loren Lee on Sept. 26, 1934; Connie Diane on Nov. 13, 1943; and Larry Allen on Aug. 2, 1945. They farmed north of Alton until 1966, when they moved to Hutchinson. Enid worked at Wiley Department Store until her retirement in 1978.
Survivors include: daughter, Connie D. Barnt Cannon, Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Viola Barnt, Burrton; four grandchildren, Donna Martin and husband Ron, Mt. Hope, Deb Jones and husband Casey, Adrian, TX, Chris Cooper and wife Charlene, Hutchinson, and Scott Cooper and wife Amanda, Hutchinson; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons: Loran Lee and Larry Allen Barnt.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Ron Kite officiating. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in Sumner Township Cemetery, Alton, Kan. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Alton United Methodist Church or Hospice Care of Kansas in care of the mortuary.
