HELEN ELIZABETH "BETTE" MOORE, 87

LAKELAND - Helen E. "Bette" Moore, 87, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 due to respiratory failure. She passed peacefully at L.R.M.C., surrounded by her loved ones.
Bette was born in Indiana in 1921 to Lloyd and Helen Yost. During the War, she worked as a secretary at the War Department in New York City.
In 1943, through a church pen-pal program for service men, she was paired with Air Force pilot William Moore, who would come to be the love of her life. After exchanging letters for a time, they finally met in person, and after just six dates, they wed.
Sixty-five years of marriage brought them much love and joy, as well as six children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Norma Turner, and her daughter Bonnie Randolph.
She is survived by her husband William R. Moore, sons Robert Moore of Winter Park and William B. Moore of Tampa, and daughters Beverly Reilly of Denver, Colo., Barbara Canning and Betsy Newmyer of Lakeland, and sister Joan Smith of Texas.
Bette was a loving woman with a vivacious spirit, playful sense of humor, and a tenacious love of chocolate. She will long be remembered for her steadfast heart and generosity and will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at 4pm, Friday, April 3rd at the Presbyterian Homes' Moore Chapel in Lakeland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heifer International, P.O. Box 8058, Little Rock, AR. 72203-8058, 800-422-0474.
