Last Rites In Memory Of Rev. Joe Allison Held Saturday

Last rites in memory of Rev. Joe Winston Allison, age 50, were held Saturday, June 11, at 4 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. W.R. Lawrence, pastor, Rev. McGary Ford, Jr., pastor of Travis Baptist Church of Amarillo, and Rev. Fern Miller of Cleburne, Texas officiating. Interment was in Citizens Cemetery with Murphy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Allison, a retired minister and presently working as an Architectual [sic] Sales Representative for Bentley-Ray Associates, Inc. of Cleburn [sic], Texas, was killed Tuesday morning June 9th, about 10 miles northeast of Silverton on Highway 256 when the car which he was driving was struck by a truck as he rounded a curve. Rev. Allison died instantly.

The Allison family moved to Clarendon two years ago from Pampa where he was pastor of Highland Baptist Church. He was born April 30, 1916 at Breakenridge [sic], Texas and spent 47 months in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. He was married to Ernestine McDowell June 3, 1947 at Abilene. He worked eight years in California doing Missionary Work and also served as pastor of the Estelline Baptist Church. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarendon.

Survivors include his wife and daughters, Lanette and Nelda of the home; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allison of Eastland; half sisters, Mrs. Bill Beaty of Robert Lee, Mrs. Weems Dykes of Irving, Mrs. Elmer Foster of Coleman; half brothers, John of Farmington, New Mexico, Grady of Baytown, Nelson of Odessa, and James of Vigo Park.

Pallbearers were Lloyd McCord, Bob Trout, Cecil McAfee, Bill Lowe, Leo Smith and P.C. Messer.
