The following was taken from Rains County History, published by the Rains County Historical Commission, c1980. died : He was returning home from a cattle drive when he was thrown from a horse or wagon & killed. He died near the close of the Civil War and was over 70 years old. He is buried near Coffeyville, KS
etc. : He was among the first settlers in what is now Wood & Rains Co., arriving abt 1843; he spent some time in TN & MO before coming to TX. He fought in the Texas War of Independence. He was a gunsmith, farmer & rancher.
