Benny Lee Lewis, 90, of Temple died Wednesday, May 26, in a local nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Benny F. Lewis and the Rev. Tom Popelka officiating.

Burial will follow in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Mr. Lewis was born on Oct. 18, 1919, to Sim and Annie Cooper Lewis in Henderson County. He served in the U.S. Army in the 36th Infantry Division during World War II. On March 1, 1943, he married Wilma Oslin. He moved to Temple in 1952. He worked for roads and grounds construction at Fort Hood. After retiring, he worked as a bus driver for Belton schools. He was active in Little League baseball. He was the past Grand Master at the King Solomon and the Knob Creek Masonic Lodges and was a past commander of American Legion Post No. 133. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penne Lewis.

Survivors include his wife of Temple; three sons, Benny F. Lewis of Nacogdoches, Lamar O. Lewis of Bandera and Russell L. Lewis of Bellevue, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
