Horace Luce was born March 13, 1839 at the Collinsville District of Canton, Hartford Co., Connecticut. His parents were Lorenzo Luce and Charlotte Winchell. Sometime between 1840 and 1850, the Luce family moved from Enfield, Connecticut to Pittsfield, Lorain Co., Ohio. By 1860, Horace was residing in Preston Twp., Fillmore Co., Minn. He married Sarah Weymouth on June 4, 1859 at Elliota, Minnesota, with which he had two sons; Edward Luce, born in 1860 and Albert Luce, born in 1861. Both were born in Fillmore Co, Minn. Sarah was the daughter of Joseph Y. Weymouth and Abigail G. Rundlett. Sarah Weymouth Luce died in Oct 1861 at Dresden, N.D.
Horace married Lucinda Millette Robinson on Apr 9, 1865. They were the parents of 6 daughters and 5 sons. The first 8 children were born in Fillmore Co., Minnesota and the 3 younger children were born in the Doland and Frankfort, S.D. area.
After Horace's death in 1906, Lucinda and 5 of her children moved to Brentford, S.D., where she operated a boarding house and her sons, Frank and Walter operated a livery business. Several of the Luce children stayed in the Brentford area. Walter Eugene Luce listed his employer as the Brentford School District in 1918. Walter died July 1, 1947 and is buried in the Plainview Cemetery in Brentford. Frederick Albert Luce worked as a farm laborer on farms in the Brentford area and later moved to Aberdeen, S.D. where he died and is buried. Charles Allen Luce worked as a jeweler in Brentford and later moved to Nebraska. Ethel Luce married Earl Stanley of Brentford and raised their family there.
Horace Luce died on October 2, 1906 in Harmony Twp.(Frankfort)Spink Co., S.D. Lucinda Robinson Luce was born December 3, 1847 in New York and died March 7, 1916 in Brentford, S.D. Both are buried in the Clifton Twp. Cemetery, Spink Co., S.D.
