He was the husband of Angela Curry Maynard.

Of Brig. General & Mrs. John B. and Lucy Talbot Dorsey Maynard of Virginia, and the grandson of Congressman Harry Lee Maynard (memorial #7688025) who served Virginia in the U.S House of Representatives for 22 years.

During his Army career he served in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII as Engineer Plans Officer for the planned invasions and occupation of Japan, and later as Commanding Officer of the 1311th Engineer General Services Regiment; was engineer in charge of construction of the Keflavik Air Field in Iceland in the late 1940's, supporting the Berlin airlift; served as Associate Professor of Mathematics at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. followed by a three-year tour in Europe; served three years in Washington, D.C. where he was in charge of the military personnel budget of the Department of the Army.

Assigned as District Engineer in Little Rock, during which time he was in charge of all planning and construction of the 13 locs and dams of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation Project, as well as the construction of Beaver Dam and Greers Ferry Dam and served as the official host to President John F. Kennedy for the Greers Ferry dedication in October, 1963. Culminating his career he was awarded the Legion of Merit, highest non-combat award given by the United States Army.

After his military career he served as Vice President Of Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company for eight years, and then Senior Vice-President of Union National Bank until it sold to Worthen Bank in the early 1990's.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, was a Knight Grand Cross of the Holy and Ancient Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, being so honored by Pope John Paul II.
