Edward C. Nelson Rites Held at Arcadia Monday
Funeral Services for Edward C. Nelson a retired Arcadia area farmer were held at the Arcadia Congregational Church. The Rev. Robert Hopkins of the Arcadia Methodist Church officiated.
Eldest son of Henry Edward and Sina (Thompson) Nelson was born May 24, 1888 in Nance county at Fullerton and departed this life at the Ord Hospital at the age of 84 years, seven months and nineteen days. He moved with his parents in 1903 at the age of 15 to a farm northwest of Arcadia. Where he helped his mother build a sod house which still stands and is being lived in on that farm today
He received his education at Dunham School District #20. In 1904 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Round Valley, Nebraska.
Always a hard working farmer, he farmed several farms near Arcadia from 1910 until 1913 When he married Flossie Elizabeth John February 12, 1913 at the home of her parents. The resided in a farm east of Arcadia until the following year, 1914, when they bought a farm north of Arcadia and lived there for 37 years.
Farming was Ed's greatest joy and he did custom shelling for over 50 years in the Arcadia vicinity, even after they retired and moved to their present home in Arcadia in 1951.
