I was born at Thatcher, Graham Co., Arizona and was only one month old when my mother took typhoid fever and died on 13 Dec. 1901 leaving me with my grandmother and grandfather, Thomas Steven Merrill and Ester Ann Collett. My father, George A. Hanks, went back to Utah and there married Bessie Bennets Johns, and I never saw my father until I was 17 years old.
I have always been taught the gospel and have tried to live it. My young girlhood was spent at Franklin, Greenlee Co., Arizona and going to school at Neblet, New Mexico. I have been president of Relief Society at Jerome Arizona, Branch of the California Mission, have taught in Sunday School, M. I. A. and Primary; have been president of Y. W. M. I A. of Kirtland ward for two years, had to be released in 1951 because of a car accident which took me a couple of years to overcome. Have been secretary of Relief Society and at present am a visiting teacher, also magazine representative, also Instructor Representative for the Kirtland Ward - 1959.
