Juanita Powell

Juanita Christeen Gibbs Powell, 77, of Columbia died Friday, May 21, 1999, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Broadway Christian Church with the Rev. Rick Frost officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Parker Funeral Service.

Mrs. Powell was born July 18, 1921, in Boone County to Charles Elmer and Ima Davis Gibbs.

She married William Daniel Powell Jr. on June 23, 1946, in Columbia, and he survives.

She was a 1939 graduate of Hickman High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. She retired after working as a secretary for Columbia Savings Bank, Hickman High School and University of Missouri Extension.

She was a charter member of Broadway Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship in Columbia. She was a member and past president of the Herbert Williams Unit No. 202 of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the Parley American Legion Auxiliary Unit 202. She was also a member of Boone County Salon, 498 Eight and Forty, the American Association of Retired Persons, a support group for people with Parkinson's Disease and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in Jefferson City.

Survivors also include a son, William Powell III of Odessa; three daughters, Rebecca Boettcher of Indialantic, Fla., Roberta Wilson of Gravois Mills and Barbara Spencer of Columbia; a sister, June Brushwood of Columbia; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A sister preceded her in death.
