Alexander was my gr-gr-grandfather, standing 5'5" tall with dark hair and blue eyes. He was a Civil War veteran, enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster, PA October 6, 1864 as a Private with Co. K, 199th PA Infantry. On June 28, 1865, when the 199th ceased its existence, he transferred to Co. K, 188th Pennsylvania Infantry to complete his term of service, and honorably discharged with his company October 19, 1865. He was discharged at Lynchburg and served for a time as first orderly for Col. Briscoe. Alexander was present at Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House. He was a member of a family of soldiers, with his father, Edward Lee, serving in the War of 1812 and his grandfather, John Lee, in the Revolution. Alexander was married to Mary Ann Walker and they had 6 children, one of whom was my great-grandmother, Martha Lee.
