Cpl. John Reagan Browning of the Air Corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Browning of Brownsboro and nephew of two Athens people, was killed in action over England September 17, according to a message received last Thursday morning by his parents.
He had been overseas only since last August, leaving shortly after visiting his parents at Brownsboro in July. His mother and a sister, Mrs. Eveline Bass, employee in the County Clerk's office in Athens, visited him in Iowa early in the summer.
Cpl. Browning received his training in gunnery schools in Colorado, Arizona and Iowa.
He was born in Brownsboro January 23, 1923, He graduated from Brownsboro High School, attended NTAC at Arlington for two years and was a student at the University of Texas, majoring in geology to be a petroleum geologist, when he was accepted for service February 19, 1943.
Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Pfc. Weldon Browning, stationed in the British West Indies and Sgt. Kenneth Browning, Camp Stewart, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. Bass and Mary Browning, both of Bownsboro; three uncles, Jack Browning of Athens, Alwyn Browning of Brownsboro and Oscar Reagan of Brownsboro; an aunt, Mrs. Hattie Browning of Athens; and his grandfather, Sam Reagan of Leagueville.
