Aunt Gert and Uncle Arch married in 1910 they never had any children. Uncle Arch worked for the railroad. One day while hooking the box cars together his hand got caught between the two and was severed at the wrist. He received a large settlement for the accident and used this settlement to begin his life's work. He and Aunt Gert began a life with the Circus. G. JOHNSTONE SOCIETY CIRCUS. Aunt Gert's show's were mainly animal acts "Johnston's Comedy Circus" "Gertrude's Educated Animal's" & "Gertrude's Pets". Some of the animal's in her act's were horses, a mule's, a Baboon and lot's of dogs. They traveled all over the country with Big Circus's like Clyde Beatty, Hagen Brother's 3 Ring Circus and Wallace & Clarke. Aunt Gert made lot's of friend's and worked with lot's of famous people like Harpo Marx and Will Rogers. My sister recently visited Aunt Gert and Uncle Arch and discovered their headstone has sunk into the ground quite a bit and we are currently working on fixing it.
