MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — Billy Gene Atkins, 78, of Midwest City, Okla. died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in his home. He was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Prairie Grove. He served in World War II and the Korean War and Vietnam War and retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service. He worked for the city of Oklahoma City for 10 years and was a member of Military Affiliated Radio Systems (MARS) Network, the Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge, the Ozark Methodist Church and the Ozark Country Club. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark. He is survived by his former wife, Iris Atkins of Midwest City, Okla.; two daughters, Sara Elizabeth Atkins of Midwest City and Karen Atkins Sholar of Oklahoma City; two sons, Patrick Michael Atkins of Midwest City and William Roland Atkins of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to AMVETS.
