Arden - Lorick Ashley Ducker, 75, of Long Shoals Road, Arden, died Sunday, May 19, 1940. She is the daughter of the late Polly Ashley and the widow of Solon Byron Ducker, Sr., who died in 1902.
Mrs. Ducker was enthusiastically religious, and she walked the roads of Avery's Creek sharing the message of the Lord with the entire community. Lorick was always available to substitute preach for the local churches in the case of an emergency. She was famous for speaking in tongues.
Survivors include three daughters; Mrs. Jeannette Cary of Encinitas, CA, Mrs. Maggie Corn and Mrs. Minnie Rhodes of Arden; two sons, Mr. Solon Byron Ducker, Jr. and Mr. Frank Ducker of Arden; cousins Mrs. Emma Brooks and Mrs. Gertie Willis of Arden, Mrs. Lorick Wolfe of Buena Vista and Mrs. Mattie Stevens of Asheville; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 21, at the Avery's Creek Union Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
