Mahala was born in Mount Rose, Hopewell Twp., old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ, the daughter of Thomas J. Blackwell and Mary Titus. She married Charles B. Moore on 5 Oct. 1839 in Mercer Co., NJ.
Note: Mahala's gravestone, which is probably a replacement or later marker, gives the month of her death as November. However, her death certificate and family Bible record show that she died 28 October 1904.

"Mahala Blackwell, of Mount Rose, New Jersey, a member of a family which played an important part in the history of Mercer county. Mr. and Mrs. Moore were the parents of Joseph, ... Mary Ann, wife of Jesse C. Slocum, of Oklahoma, ... Emma F., wife of Forman Hulick, of Edenburg [Edinburg]."
