Betty J. Mayer, 87, formerly of Bluffton, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at Swiss Village in Berne. Born on Dec. 5, 1925, in Ossian to Charles and Beaulah (Folk) Osborn, she married Russell L. Mayer Sr. on Oct. 3, 1942, in Bluffton; he died Oct. 5, 1993.

She was a homemaker and also worked at Kitco Manufacturing. She was a member of the First Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Russell L. (Brenda) Mayer Jr. of Ossian and Timothy A. (Joyce) Mayer of Bluffton; three daughters, Helen (Lynn) Ratcliff of Monroe, Peggy J. Mayer of Fort Wayne and Doris K. Mayer of Bluffton; a sister, Bessie Oliver of Bluffton; and six grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Dwight, Marion, Clifford, Paul, Charles Jr., Max, Jay, Dale and Jessie Osborn; and three sisters, Mary Perry, Martha Zimmerman and Ida Hankins.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Chris Thurow officiating. Calling hours there are Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
