Nerla Landis Dykes
Mrs. Nerla (HINSEY) [WALTERS] LANDIS DYKES, 73, R.R. 2, Argos, was found dead at her home Tuesday noon by her husband, Clayton. A doctor was summoned and he said she apparently suffered a heart attack about 9 a.m. Tuesday, shortly after her husband left the house.
She was the owner and operator of the Landis nursing home at Argos.
The daughtter of Joseph and Lydia SHOUP HINSEY, she was born near Silver Lake Nov. 11, 1892. She was married first to Harley WALTERS, then in 1940 to Wilbur LANDIS, who died in 1955, and to Clayton DYKES in 1958. He survives.
A member of the Izaak Walton League auxiliary, she previously lived in Akron and Rochester, moving to Argos from Fulton county in 1952.
Survivors besides the husband are four daughters, Mrs. Kathleen LONG, South Bend Mrs. George (Maude) ROGER and Mrs. Richard (Betty) LESH, Warsaw; Mrs. Gerald (Donna) NEFF, Mishawaka; two sons, Robert WALTERS, Decatur, and Richard WALTERS, Osceola; three step-sons, William LANDIS, Hammond; Eugene DYKES, Gary, and Maynard DYKES, Crown Point; two step-daughters, Mrs. Wilmetta HIATT, Kouts, and Mrs. Lois McINTIRE, Hebron; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie FUNNELL, Akron; Mrs. Maude ELLIS, Warsaw, and Mrs. Nina RITER, South Bend. One son, Earl WALTERS, died in 1965 and one daughter died in infancy.
Friends may call at the Grossman funeral home in Argos after 10 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be there at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Jessie YOUNG of Rochester officiating.
Burial will be in the Argos I.O.O.F. cemetery.
