Charlotte Ann (Baker) Stricklett, 93

July 18, 1916 ~ May 10, 2010

Funeral Leaflet
Charlotte Ann Stricklett was born on July 18, 1916 in Bennington, Nebraska to Oscar W. and Christina A. (Kisling) Baker.

The family moved a few times before settling in Blair, Nebraska, due to her father's job in railroading. When Charlotte was around three years old they moved to East Y, Iowa where the family had previously lived. When Charlotte was eight years old and in the third grade, they moved to Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. The family returned to East Y when Charlotte was ten years old. She started the fifth grade there in the fall of 1926. In June of 1927, the family made their last move, and settled in Blair, Nebraska. Their first home was a section house next to the railroad tracks on 12th Street between State and Washington Streets.

Charlotte graduated from Blair High School in 1934. She married Guy R. Stricklett on July 2, 1941 in Blair. They lived in Omaha for a short time, and spent the remainder of their married lives in Blair. Guy passed away on November 16, 1975.

Charlotte was a homemaker as were most women of that time. She was devoted to her family and truly believed that "a man's home is his castle". Supper was always put on the table as her husband, Guy, walked in the door from work. She loved children, and spent many wonderful hours playing with and reading to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She made many sacrifices for her family, going without so her family would have what they needed. She wanted to do all she could for her family. One of her favorite holidays was Christmas, and she always made sure the house was beautifully decorated, and there were the things her children longed for under the tree. Birthdays were another time Charlotte made her family feel very special. She started a tradition of calling each child, grandchild, great-grandchild and great-great-grandchild, as well as their spouses on their birthdays.

Charlotte was raised in a loving family, and ties with her brothers and sister were very deep. Her nieces and nephews were extensions of her family that she cared deeply about. She kept in contact with them across the years and miles, and loved hearing about their lives.

Charlotte loved dogs, and gave many dogs a loving home over her lifetime. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and word puzzles until she lost her eyesight. She still spent many hours listening to talking books.

Her friends were treasures to her, and she enjoyed all they shared together.

In November, 2000 Charlotte moved from her home of 53 years to the Crowell home in Blair, where she spent the remainder of her life. She made many friends among the residents and staff.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers: Otto, Alfred, Arthur and Alvin Baker; two sisters, Ledocia Baker and Margaret Stolley; a granddaughter, Susan Berggren, and son-in-law, Charles Berggren.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and Don Magill of Tekamah, NE and Nancy and Joe Galaway of Fairmont, NE; six grandchildren: Cheryl (John) Kelly of Deloit, Iowa; Dan(Therese) Magill of Decatur, NE; Randy (Linda) Magill of Fort Calhoun, NE; Lorraine Magill of Mondamin, Iowa; Shelly (Dave) Cassidy of Fairmont, NE, and Ken (Linda) Berggren of Unityville, Pennsylvania; eleven great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Mollie Cooper of Coaldale, Colorado and Grace Stricklett of Omaha; brother-in-law Stanley Thompson of Missouri; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Goodbye My Love

By Nancy Stricklett Galaway

It's time to say goodbye my love.
I would love to stay with you longer,
But something greater calls me on.
I've had such a wonderful life here.
Yes, there were some rough times,
But they gave me such love and happiness.
We shared so many unforgettable times
Each moment a treasure to take with me,
And a comfort for you to hold on to.
I look forward to the next part of my journey,
For there are many I long to see once more.

The one thing death cannot rob you of,
Is my deep and continuous love for you.
When you feel the breeze touch your cheek,
You'll be enveloped and embraced by my love.
Each time you hear the rolling thunder,
You'll feel the strength and power of my love.
When you smell the fragrance of a flower,
You'll remember the sweetness of our love.
And each time you look into the star lit sky,
You'll feel the depth of my undying love.
I'll never be that far away from you my dear,
