Elic Hunter Laird
Elic hunter Laird was born on March 7, 1923 in Leakey, Texas and passed away on July 19, 1995 in a Bakersfield Hospital. He was 72 years old and fought a courageous battle against malignant melanoma for two and one half years.
He leaves his wife Ludie of fifty-one years, three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Joanne of Santa Clara, CA., Jerry and Terry of Bishop, CA and Alan and Diana of Oxnard, CA. Eight grandchildren, Chris, Sheila, Wendy, Krista, Justin, Travis, Nicholas, and Lindsay, along with two great-grandchildren. Also, four sisters, Erna Hillman, Martha Lou Buchanan, Della Schmiedebert, and Dollie Brooks and three brothers-in-law all of Leakey, Texas.
Elic also leaves Wilbur and Ophelia Laughrin and Gerald and Kathi Gragson, bothers and sisters-in-law. Also, a cousin, Ruth Cox. all of Brawley, CA., and many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and a great friend to all. He is so very loved by his family and will be dearly missed by all.
Elic served six years in the U.S. Marine Corp, during World War II. Half of the time he spent in the South Pacific, Midway Island and Okinawa, fighting for his country. Before retiring in 1985, he worked as an electrician for Moore Electric in Brawley, CA. He was an electrician for forty-five years.
He and his wife lived in Brawley, CA from 1946-1985, after traveling for several years, they moved three and one-half year ago, to the West Golden Hills area of Tehachapi, CA.
He loved all of his family dearly. He also loved traveling, fishing and working in his beautiful yard of flowers. When they bought their home in Tehachapi, while viewing the mountains, birds, tree, windmills and surroundings, Elic remarked, "Living here is the next best thing to Heaven." Elic was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tehachapi.
Pastor Jerry McCullah officiated at the graveside service, which was held on Monday, July 24, 1995 at Westside Cemetery, Tehachapi, under the direction of the Wood Family funeral Service of Tehachapi, CA
