Mattie Swank was the never-married daughter of Joshua Brinton Swank and Eliza Patterson Swank, of Nowata, Oklahoma. She had several brothers and sisters, and lived most of her life with her parents and siblings at various times. While most of the family stayed in Oklahoma, her brother, Harvey Swank moved to Mercer County, Illinois, and Mattie spent some time there, as well. Although she had no children of her own, she was in constant written contact with her many nieces and nephews, including my grandmother, a daughter of Harvey.
