A biographical sketch of Ezekiel Phelps taken from Hazzard's History, Henry Co., IN.

Ezekiel Phelps was born February 11, 1829 in Guilford Co., NC, a son of Samuel and Sarah Phelps. His parents came to Henry Co., IN in 1831, and settled on a farm, four miles southwest of New Castle, where they lived the rest of their lives. They had a family of eleven children.
Ezekiel had limited educational advantages, his father having been an invalid for many years, he was obliged to work on the farm and care for the family. He married Sarah, the daughter of Levi and Margaret Hoover, and they settled on the Abner Elliott farm, in 1865, containing 278 acres of choice land. He build a two-story brick residence, in 1876, with all the modern improvements.
Ezekiel and Sarah had four children: Calvin H., Mary Elizabeth, Cora A., and Verling H. They were members of the Society of Orthodox Friends.
