A 1951 graduate of Lancaster High School, Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter aircraft crew chief mechanic from 1954 to 1956, and was a member of the American Legion and the NRA. He worked for Allen and Sons Sales and Service, a family owned business, for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was known as the "Tractor Doctor." He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Bluffton.
Other surviving relatives include two sons, Chris L. (Nichole Floyd) Allen and Curtis J. (Ruth) Allen, both of Bluffton; a daughter, Misty (Chris) Barrows of Indianapolis; a sister, Norma (Smokey) Baller of Bluffton; three brothers, Rex (Julie) Allen of Fort Wayne, Tom Allen of Ossian and Bill (Julie) Allen of Ossian; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton, with American Legion Post 111 conducting Military Graveside Rites.
Preferred memorials are to the First Church of Christ.
