Elmer R. Carnathan, 85, of Claridge, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in his home. He was born May 13, 1923, in Jeannette, a son of the late Edward and Sarah Hoak Carnathan. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a shearman for Irwin Sensenich. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Kidd Carnathan, in 2005; a grandson, Jim Carnathan; four brothers, his twin, James, and John, George and Leonard Carnathan; and six sisters, Jean Stevenson, Margaret Pearsol, Emma Eakin, Bertha Houser, Frances Flock and Sue Bittner. He is survived by two sons, James R. Carnathan and his wife, Kathy, and Robert "Bob" Carnathan, both of Claridge; two daughters, Betty Leonard and her husband, Glen, of Harrison City, and Sally Carnathan, of Claridge; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., 3343 Route 130, Harrison City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert J. Marks officiating. Interment will follow in Jeannette Memorial Park, Penn Township.
