Daughter of Evan Wade and Mary Elizabeth Bell Wade. Married on October 31, 1898 to Alson Arthur Byrer in Indiana. She had seven children - Lawrence, Ernest, Joseph, Johnny, Rollie, Omer and Baby Mary. Her little Johnny passed away in 1905. Gertrude and Alson moved to Terre Haure, but he passed away in 1907 when she was one month pregnant with Baby Mary. Baby Mary passed away in 1909. The following year on September 19, 1910 she married a widower named James Lowery Garten. He had children from his first marriage and together they had seven more - Elizabeth, Virginia, Juanita, Walter "Bloomer", Eldora, Sarah and James Garten Jr.
