Donald J. "Donnie" Armer, 79, of Bart Twp., entered into rest at Conestoga View on May 19, 2010. Born in Bart Twp., he was the son of the late Frank B. and Cornelia (Tweed) Armer. Donnie and his wife, Ethel (Henry) Armer, had celebrated 60 years of marriage together in July.
For over 24 years, Donnie worked for Bart Township as a Supervisor and Roadmaster. He also worked as a security guard for the Solanco High School and in the maintenance department for the Quarryville Borough.
Donnie was well known in the community for his outstanding volunteer service to the Quarryville Fire Company, where he was a life-time member and was named fireman of the year three times. He was also very active in the Quarryville Fire Police Association. Donnie enjoyed hunting, traveling, and being involved in the lives of his family; he was a devoted family man.
Surviving besides his wife Ethel is a daughter, Barbara, wife of Leo Tollinger, a son Michael, husband of Becky, and a daughter, Linda wife of Gregg Bledsoe, all residing in Quarryville; along with grandchildren, Jeffrey, Genny, Josh and a great-grandson, Ryan. Donnie also has a brother, Paul, and sisters, Elvina Hagerty, Helen Farmer and Pauline Woods. He was preceded in death by brothers, Richard and Robert.
Funeral Services will be held at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 227 W. Fourth St., Quarryville on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Blake Deibler officiating. Interment will follow in Middle Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Sunday evening at the funeral home from 6:30 until 8:30.
