Charles was first involved in the real estate business but in 1917 he became a builder and contractor, From 1932 to 1944 he was superintendent of the Canton Water Department. He served as service director under Mayor Curtis. From 1950 to 1958 he owned the Whitmer Lumber Co. and from 1958 to 1964 he was president of the Fulton Lumber Co. He then founded Bolender Homes, Inc. which he continued until his death.
In addition to his widow he was survived by daughters Mrs. Geraldine Buckwalter & Mrs. John Arbaugh and sons Todd & Charles. (Extracted in part from his obituary, Canton Repository, Apr. 6, 1971)
