Fay Lucille Gullickson, 89, of rural Fertile, MN, died on Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN.

She was born on June 13, 1920, to Otto and Helen (Lenz) Gast at home near Beltrami, MN. Fay attended rural school near her home and graduated from Beltrami High School in 1938. She graduated from Moorhead State Teacher's College, Moorhead, MN, and later taught in rural schools and at Ada Elementary School, Ada.

On June 17, 1943, Fay was united in marriage to Russell Gullickson at her parent's farm. They purchased a farm from Roy Jacobson in Garfield Twp, rural Fertile, where they have lived since. Over the years, Fay stayed busy raising their boys, assisting on the farm, Homemakers Club and leading 4-H Club. She was an active member of Little Norway Lutheran Church and its ladies groups; she especially enjoyed her Esther Circle. Fay held various offices in the ELCW at Little Norway.

Fay was a complex and fascinating woman. She could be very proper and absurdly humorous. Laughing during games and giggling uncontrollably with grandchildren was a common occurrence. She was a wonderful hostess, being creative and organized. Fay had a marvelous way of showing appreciation by writing notes and sending cards. She loved watching the Twins and attending sporting and other events her grandchildren were involved with. Fay appreciated fine quality and would finish various wood items to perfection.

Cooking, baking and serving meals to family and friends brought Fay a lot of satisfaction. Family times, especially with the grandchildren and when everyone was together, were treasured experiences. She deeply loved her family, especially her husband, Russell.

Fay is survived by her husband, Russell, Fertile; two sons, Steve (Georgia), Bejou, MN, and Mark (Lynne), rural Fertile, MN; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Stella Gast, Ada, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Warren, Loyal, and Harold; and four sisters, infant Gladys, Edith Balstad, Irene Swanson, and Florence Roragen.
