Viola was born in Mora, N.M., on August 17, 1922. The family moved to Denver, where Viola attended Manual High School and graduated in 1940.

Viola met Tony Barella, of Fort Collins, they were married and raised nine children. Viola was the loving mother of eight boys and one girl, Tony Barella(Anthony) Jr., Mel Barella, Claude Barella, Ed Barella, Dale Barella, Michael Barella, Louise Barella, Toby Barella and Mark Barella. Viola had 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Barella, son Claude Barella, mother Lucinda McGrath, father Trinidad McGrath, and three sisters, Louise Marquez, Josephine Castro and Mary Sanchez. Our Mother, Viola enjoyed cooking, raising children, grandchildren, and singing. Viola over the years passed on this legacy on to her children and grandchildren, Viola will forever be missed.
