Marie V. Dreffs, 89, of Gaylord, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at Mercy Manor in Grayling. Mrs. Dreffs was born in Gaylord on Oct. 6, 1913, the daughter of John and Frances (Szocinski) Leszczynski. She was raised in Gaylord and had attended Logan School. Mrs. Dreffs had also lived for a short time in Saginaw. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Vanderbilt and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She loved playing bingo and playing cards. On June 20, 1936, she married her husband, Paul Dreffs. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1980. She was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Leonard and Eugene, and two brothers, Joseph Leszczynski and Stanley Lash. She is survived by her children, Raymond (Patricia) of Vanderbilt, Rita (Hilbert) Butka, Donald, Chris (Vern) Collins and Joseph, all of Gaylord; 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Raymond Lash of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday, Nov. 9) at 10 a.m. from Holy Redeemer Church in Vanderbilt, the Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home was held on Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Friday from noon to 9 p.m. and will be today from 9 a.m. until prayers at 9:30 a.m. St. Mary Daughters of Isabella and the Knights of Columbus held a rosary Friday at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Redeemer Church Building Fund or to St. Mary Cathedral School, through the Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Gaylord.
