She was born April 19, 1918, in Maryland, the daughter of Oscar and Jennie (Miller) Axtell.
Lucy married Edward S. Taite in 1946. He predeceased her in April of 1987.
She was a cashier and bookkeeper for the Great American in Oneonta.
Lucy was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Meat Cutter's Union in Norwich and the Schenevus VFW Post 2752 Auxiliary.
She enjoyed gardening, reading and camping.
Lucy is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Amash of Latham, and Lois Whitbeck and husband, Oakley, of Round Lake; a son, Steven Taite and wife Terry, of Niskayuna; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Walling; and her grandchildren, Marie Amash, Robert David Whitbeck and Richard Walling.
A calling hour will be from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus with the Rev. Larry Russell, pastor of the Schenevus United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Maryland Cemetery at a later date.
