Sanger-The Rev. Luther C. Greer, 65, a Baptist pastor for 38 years, died here at 9:45 p.m. Monday.
The Rev. Mr. Greer, who was born December 29, 1890, in Murphy, Texas, had been pastor at Sanger's First Baptist Church for 14 years. He first became pastor there in 1934 where he served until 1942. Three years later he returned to Sanger in 1945 and served until 1951. Mr. Greer attended school in Murphy and graduated from McKinney High School. He later attended the Burleson Junior College at Greenville.
Mr. Greer had also served as pastor at Henrietta and Trinidad, and Demming, N. M. For the past three years he had served as pastor of the Baptist Church at Van. He retired from active work in January of this year and had moved back to Sanger to make his home.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.Beatrice Greer; his mother, Mrs. Roxie Greer, Murphy; two brothers, the Rev. Milton Greer of Dallas, and Charlie Greer, Murphy; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Walters, Lewisville and Mrs. Luther Knight, Houston.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Sanger, Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Ross O. Ward, assisted by Rev. Charles Cockrell of Garland; Dr. d. H. Borren of Austin; the Rev. R. w. Massey of Belcher, LA; and the Rev. Frank Lamb of Sanger.
Burial will be in the Sanger Cemetery.
