Catherine was born in Stigliano, Italy, and immigrated to the United States with her mother and brother in June 1887. She married Peter Sarubbl on 29 October 1900 in Saint Anthony's Church Yonkers, New York and settled in Yonkers. She had two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Lapchick and Mrs. Edith Trimble; three sons Felix, Adolph, and Joseph Sarubbi and numerous grandchildren.
