William Hubbs was born May 22, 1874, in Missouri. His parents were Robert and Mary Hubbs. He had two sisters; Hulda, who married James Scott; and Martha who married Ed Nelson; three brothers; Manuel, who married Lillie Martin, John, who married Ollie Hunter, and Jim, who married Ruth Crispin. He had four brothers, including Lacy, who married Clara Mayfield and Oscar. On September 21, 1902, William Hubbbs married Mary Cummins. She was born March 18, 1885, at Olney, Illinois and came to Missouri when a young girl. Her parents were George Washington and Minnie Benefiel Cummins. She had three brothers; William Henderson, who married Mattie Fox, Jasper Leo, who married Maggie Belle Ogle and Grover, who died at 15 years of age; one sister Ethel Iona, who married James Robert Martin. William and Mary spent their married life in the Dent & Texas County area. William worked in the timber and enjoyed spending his free time hunting and fishing. Mary was a devoted wife ;and mother. She was a fine craftswoman and had a special talent for collecting and preparing buckberry runners and weeving them into beautiful baskets. They had eight children; Lecil, born March 3, 1904, who married Lillie Scantlin, Nola, born March 10, 1906, who married 1) Enver Vandivoort, 2) Roy Hilderbrand, and 3) Thornton Klunkleman, Ora, born November 9, 1910, who married Shelby McColgin, Orpha Fay, born August 11, 1913, who married Omer Brim, Hershel Lee born September 11, 1918, who married Sylvia Holland, Opal Delores, born October 25, 1921, who married 1) Carlos Evans, and 2) Dolph Floyd, and Ruby Jewel, born September 3, 1923, who married Lloyd Schafer. William Hubbs died on March 5, 1958, Mary on March 28, 1945. They are buried at the Ashley Cemetery. Written by Lecil Hubbs.
