Jean (John) Saigon Blanchard and his wife Abigail left Andover Mass. in 1799 with a wagon and a team of Oxen and made their way north to Oswegatchie, (Ogdensburg) N.Y. From there they Ferried across the St. Lawrence River and landed at Maitland. From here they followed a Military trail west than turned north through the wilderness and finally settled at Lot. 28 Con. 9 in Elizabethtown, U.C.(Upper Canada). They were the first settlers in what was to be later called Greenbush.
