Martha Ann Avant was born Feb. 9, 1833 to Benjamin W Avant and Margaret (Peggy) Fite in Alexandria, DeKalb Co., Tennessee.
She outlived 3 spouses:
Marriages:
1) William Dolphin Bass (1830-1869) who was killed on Dec. 29, 1869. They had at least 5 children before his death. They married on Oct 29, 1852 in TN residing in Liberty, DeKalb co, (according to International Marriage records, but some family records state 1851). Their 1st two children were born in TN before migrating to Texas and settling in Gonzales County, TX.
2) Robert James Gill (1807-1897) on Dec 2, 1872 in Gonzales County, Texas. They had at least one child: Robert A Gill (1876-1879) who is buried near them in Blanco Cemetery (Section D 6D-11).
Note: Robert James Gill was my 3rd great grandfather.
3) Joseph Lewis Bird (1822-1909) whom she married on January 3, 1900 and he is buried in Round Mountain Cemetery by his 1st wife. No known children of this marriage.

Martha Ann Avant-Bass-Gill-Bird died on Feb. 15, 1913 in Johnson City, Blanco Co., Texas and was buried next to her 2nd husband: Robert James Gill (my 3rd great grandfather on my maternal side of the family via his marriage to his first wife Elizabeth Ann Cherry-Gill (1810-1867)). His 1st wife is buried in Snake Creek Cemetery (Ft Bend County, Tx) where they were living in 1867. After Elizabeth Ann Cherry-Gill died he migrated to Blanco County (as did other GILL and WEST family members orginally settling in Ft Bend County, Texas, including his daughter Virena Clementine Gill-West (who was my 2nd great grandmother).
