Irene Wanda Howald, 83, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at her son's residence in Brazil, Ind. She was a resident of Brazil, Ind.
She was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Brazil, Ind. Her parents were Herman and Lovina (Neese) Egener. She married John A. Howald on June 30, 1940. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1999. Survivors include three sons, John T. Howald of Franklin, David Howald of Brazil, Ind., and Greg Howald of Hoonah, Alaska; a brother, Thomas Egener of Denver; six grandsons; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman, Charles and William Egener; two sisters, Esther Cheek Weber and Charlotte Speer; and two grandchildren, Darlene and Steven Hall.
She was a 1939 graduate of Brazil High School.
She had been employed by the old Brazil Clay Co. She retired from Farm Bureau Insurance after 22 years.
She was a member of Croys Creek Congregational Christian Church near Brazil, Ind.
She was a poet and enjoyed writing and attending writing classes in Terre Haute and Brazil, Ind.
The Revs. Doug Parkey and Warren Whittington will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St. in Brazil, Ind. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Summit Lawn Cemetery in Brazil, Ind.
