In 1846 James emigrated from Londonderry
to Quebec City, Canada.

Occupation - Farmer at Mulmur, Ontario.

James and Jane married on 13 April 1864
in the United Church
at Caledon Township, Peel County, Ontario.
They were the parents of eight children;
John, George, Sarah Jane, Euphemia,
Margaret Ann, William James, George Wesley, Andrew Herbert.

In 1866 he served as a militia volunteer in Number 10 Company 35th Battalion during the Fenian Raid.
