OBITUARY (newspaper unknown) Nov 15 1947
TOWER-William Edward Hill, 75, Tower, died early Saturday [Nov 8] morning at his home. Mr. Hill was a former mayor of Tower and was one of the early residents, having come to Tower in 1889. He was born June 8, 1872 in Redruth, England. Upon his arrival in Tower he became associated with his brothers in the operation of a blacksmith shop and continued to operate the business until he was forced to retire from active work due to old age. He was also a veterinary and followed this trade in addition to his work as a blacksmith. Survivors include two sons, Stanley J., Tower and Herbert, Chicago; four daughters, Miss Lorena Hill, Tower, Mrs. Anthony J. Militana, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Helen [Hellen] and Elmira [Mallvilla], both of Chicago, and one brother, Charles, Redruth. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in St. James Presbyterian church at Tower, the Rev. Dean W. Carlson officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Pallbearers were Claude Winchell, Frank Desannoy, Arthur Fredrickson, Michael J. Driscoll, Jr., Richard Anderson and John Axelson.

William E. Hill was born in 1872 in Redruth, England. He left England in 1889 and came to Tower, Minnesota. He worked as a blacksmith helper for James Tippett [his uncle] and later bought Tippett out and operated his own shop.
In early 1900 he took a correspondence course from the Veterinary Science Association in London, Ontario, Canada. He received his diploma and practiced as a veterinarian and blacksmith until he retired in 1940. He was known in his youth for his success as a "horseman" and traveled the Minnesota and Wisconsin harness racing circles.
He was one of the first fire chiefs in Tower and served in this capacity for many years. He was elected mayor of Tower for many terms. He also served as alderman and as deputy sheriff. He passed away in 1947.
