Delmer Burdick Gray, age 94, died in Cedar City, Utah on August 23, 2006.

Delmer was born on November 2, 1911 in Minersville, Utah to Columbus Burdick and Isabelle Goff. Delmer was the fifth of their seven children.

His mother died in the flu epidemic when he was only seven so their father in Minersville raised him with his other siblings. His mother's death left a great void in his life.

As a young boy he herded sheep and worked for the Murray Sheep Company. When he was a little older he farmed with his father and had some cattle. When the depression hit he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. Next he moved to Pioche, Nevada and worked in the mines. While living in Pioche he met Ilene Lamb. They were married in Minersville, Utah on March 20th, 1937. They were later sealed September 17, 1960 in the St. George Temple.

After living in Pioche they moved back to Minersville and Delmer worked on the Union Pacific Railroad from which he retired. He also worked in the mines around Milford. Delmer and Ilene spent 53 years together. Their home was not fancy but they took great pride in keeping both their yard and home neat and clean. They raised a beautiful garden, a nice raspberry patch, and some apricot trees. He always had a milk cow to provide milk for the family and raised pigs and beef to eat. When anyone visited at their home they were always welcome to a good meal and a place to stay. Delmer had a great love for Ilene and his life was never the same after her passing on Dec. 19th, 1989.

Delmer served on the City Council of Minersville for one term. Some of his callings in the church were both 1st and 2nd Counselor along with being President of the Elders Quorum. He was Secretary of High Priests Quorum. He also served as Financial Clerk of the Minersville Ward. Delmer and Ilene were called to do sealings in the St. George Temple. They went down every Tuesday for 10 years. Delmer always enjoyed attending his church meetings. His family was very important to him and he loved having them visit.

He is survived by his children: Daughter Verlene Yardley of Milford, Utah: sons Leslie Gray of Las Vegas, Nevada; Spencer and Janet Gray of Caliente, Nevada; Justin Gray of Enoch, Utah; and Kenneth and Sherrie Gray of Midland, Texas; 21 grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren one on the way; six great-great with three more on the way. Sister Lyda Mills of Buhl, Idaho. Preceding him in death were his wife Ilene, son Wesley, son-in-law Joseph Yardley, daughter-in-law Noreen Gubler Gray, grandson Michael Reinhardt; brother's Clarence and Frances Gray; sister's Hazel Bradshaw, Margurite Eyre, Violet Goodwin, Arlene Judd, and Dolly Bonhey.

Funeral services will be held on Monday August 28th at 11 a.m. at the Minersville 1st Ward. Viewings will be at the church Sunday August 27th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on 28th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. Burial in the Minersville Cemetery, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
