Myrtle Mayo was born in Hamilton County, Texas, the daughter of Andrew Hilliard and Eliza Johnston. She was a spunky, hardworking, Christian woman whom everyone loved. She raised four children alone during the Great Depression of the 1930's. Her children: Ada Belle Mayo Collins, b. 5-10-1915 living in Vernon, Tx.; Anna Mae Mayo Simon, b. 12-20-1917 living in Denver, Colo.; Otis Vincent Mayo, b. 4-22-1919, d. 8-24-1996 in Iowa Park, Tx. and Juanita Mayo Wilson, b. 5-09-1921 living in Vernon, Tx. She was a charter member of the Second Baptist Church in Vernon, Tx. in 1948 and worked as a cook in the Vernon School System until her retirement in the 1960's. Greatly loved and missed.
