Three days before his 18th birthday, as part of the East Tennessee Militia, Adam fought in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, in which his best friend and the friend's father were killed. After the war, Adam returned home to Caney Valley and married Miss Mary Klepper. They wasted no time starting their family in Tennessee and later emigrated to Jackson County Indiana, where they lived the rest of their lives, raising 13 children. After Adam's passing, his granddaughter married the grandson of a sister to Adam's young friend killed at Horseshoe Bend.
